In 1996 Fireplaces by Design was created to fill a void in the market. 
The industry was changing.



Up until this point the industry was built by small shops that 
thrived by selling equipment and subcontracting the work to install them.
This was no longer cutting it because consumers had
no where to turn when problems arose. Full service companies
were needed in the hearth industry. 
Customers wanted one company that could handle the job
from start to finish.  This is where Fireplaces by Design's Parent Company,
Design Air got involved, developing into a hearth business, seemed like a natural next step from the HVAC industry. 
The next generation of gas fired & pellet stoves were changing how business was done.  They were being designed with much more complicated control systems. It was the perfect time for Design Air to become involved. These new control systems needed professional services. This is why Fireplaces by Design employs licensed & insured professionals to care for all of your fireplace needs.
   
      

Eric Buchalter - Owner 

Eric has been in the HVAC business over 30 years. He received his college education in Mechanical engineering, He is the President of Design Air Inc. in Hillburn, NY since 1984.

Eric brings a lot to the table with a wealth of knowledge and certications including:
BPI building performance institute certification in building analyst,
heating / cooling and shell. 
 
Heating / Cooling and Home improvement license holder in Rockland county.

Home improvement license holder in New Jersey and Westchester County.

NFI National Fireplace Institute certifications in gas and wood.

He is also a Member ‘Hearth Patio Barbecue Association’.

Larry Savino - General Manager

Larry has been in the Hearth industry for 14 years. Larry is highly educated in this field.  He is a Master Hearth Professional. To attain this he has passed rigorous examiniations on a yearly basis in all three fuel certifications: Gas, Woodburning & Pellet.  This is a prestigioius certification that few professionals in the field has attained.

 Larry constantly adds to his education by taking current courses offered by both the manufacturers & the National Fireplace Institue (NFI).
