The inaugural service was held in the Golden Room of the Coliseum Motor Inn, East Meadow, where church services were held for one year. With an adult membership of thirteen, the present location at 78 North Franklin Street was purchased.
Buildings and Acquisitions
Several renovations were made to the original structure, which had become inadequate for the growing
population of approximately 400 members. At the turn of the twenty first century, we initiated two morning services to accommodate the exploding attendance.
In 2002, the church purchased a 12,000 sq. ft building, The Exodus Youth Center, which temporarily housed the congregation during the construction of the new sanctuary. This has been upgraded to provide technical and academic training and entertainment for the youth of the community.
On Easter Sunday 2003, we had a record attendance of 1,103 persons attending services in the sanctuary and the Exodus Youth Center. As a visionary leader, Pastor Goldson clearly saw that space was rapidly becoming a challenge. Plans were initiated and developed to reconstruct the sanctuary at 78 North Franklin Street. These plans were approved in January 2004 and we broke ground in March of that same year.
Calvary Tabernacle's facilities now include a new sanctuary at 78 North Franklin Street to accommodate over 700 people; a well needed Conference and Catering Center on the third floor; The Exodus Youth Center and plans are aggressively underway for acquiring a school.
As Hempstead grew, so did Calvary Tabernacle. Today we have more than 700 members from all walks of life. Throughout our sixteen year history, Calvary Tabernacle members have started many ministries and missions in the Hempstead area. We are active in the community, and support those in need through our missionary work and charities.
Our Sunday services and worship is the foundation of Calvary Tabernacle ministries. Individuals from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life attend our services weekly. Calvary Tabernacle’s parishioners range in age from infants to centenarians.
All Hempstead residents and residents from the surrounding areas who are interested in receiving the Lord into their lives are welcome to join us weekly at Calvary Tabernacle.
