The Zulus are the largest tribe in Southern Africa, renowned for their artistry and craftsmanship. These brightly woven Ilala Palm baskets are from Zululand. Ilala Palm is grown along the coast, and then stripped, sun dried, and naturally dyed with dyes obtained by boiling local roots, berries, leaves and the bark of indigenous flora. Every basket is made by hand and they vary from area to area depending on the availability of raw materials and the use to which the basket is to be put. These are great just to hang up on a wall.
