FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Spring Ball raises over $75,000 for local families, children in dire need.
BOSTON – The Weber Foundation of Helping Hands raised over $75,000 for local families and children in need during its first Annual Spring Ball on April 6 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza-Boston. More than 350 attended the event to raise money for the foundation, which provides direct financial assistance to families, children and individuals suffering from life-threatening illnesses and other catastrophic situations.
During the ball, Councilman Stephen Murphy, presented Elizabeth Weber, the organization’s founder, a proclamation from the City of Boston in appreciation for her work on behalf of area families and residents. “The Boston City Council does hereby extend its thanks to the Weber Foundation of Helping Hands for the good work they have done for those in need and offers its best wishes for success for its annual fundraiser, the Spring Ball, and in honor of the event does hereby declare Saturday, April 6, 2002 to be The Weber Foundation of Helping Hands Day.”
Weber began the foundation in October 2000 to assist people who are facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. She personally covers all administrative costs associated with the foundation that are not donated so that all the money raised goes directly to those in need. Her belief that “Everyone needs a Guardian Angel once in a while ” is the premise for the organization. Over the past year, the foundation has raised more than $100,000 and has given 28 grants totaling nearly $100,000 to various individuals and families throughout the region, including $15,000 to five families of New York City firefighters and police officers who died in the September 11 attack. During 2001, the Weber Foundation also provided grants to several Massachusetts families who lost their homes to devastating fires and to several individuals and children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
