Herbjorn Gausta (1854-1924)

Herbjorn Gausta was born in Norway June 16, 1854.  Gausta emigrated to the United States and lived on a farm in Fillmore County, Minnesota.  Gausta attended Luther College in Iowa in the 1870s.  He returned to Europe to study painting in Oslo and the Academy of Art in Munich.  In 1888, he returned to Minnesota, but continued to make several trips to Europe to study Impressionism.  Gausta died May 22, 1924.
