Electricity is typically the best way to go becaue it is a consistent fuel and prices stay pretty constant, unlike gas or propane.  Propane is a good fuel if you want to look at it in the fireplace.  We can't do that with electricity.

     Of course, there is the option of a log fireplace.  The heat is more difficult to control, and the fuel source, maintenance, and clean up are hard work!
