Structural Integrity Exercise Therapy (SIET)
|
This module specifically designed for Therapists who are seeking an innovative, active and efficient method of treating their patients. This course deals with the integration of exercise therapy from a manual therapist’s perspective. You will perform a full body structural evaluation along with a gait and tri-planar postural analysis. From this information you will design a progression of individualized home exercise programs that retrains the neuromuscular system. These home exercise programs will be designed to compliment their manual therapy treatments, for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal dysfunction. You will learn specific exercises that will improve your patient’s postural alignment, decrease joint hypomobility, muscle guarding and fascial tension and increase range of motion. The course will include many hands-on lab sessions and patient demonstrations. The exercises have a heavy concentration on the spine, ribs, sacrum and pelvis. There are also sections on the upper and lower extremities. These exercises require minimal equipment and can be performed almost anywhere. These exercises were designed to support the various forms of manual therapy. It works in conjunction with Strain and Counterstrain, Muscle Energy technique and Fascial Release Technique and helps to further promote and maintain functional range of motion, joint mobility, soft tissue flexibility, strength and endurance. The focus of this course is to train the therapist how to develop a specialized program for their patient. The therapist will also be instructed how to implement, adapt and progress the program according to the patient’s needs.
Course Objectives • Understand the principles of structural alignment and how inactivity, dysfunction and compensation play a role. • Perform tri-planar postural evaluations and document the results. • Design and sequence an individualized exercise program for your patients to complement their manual therapy treatment. • To be able to instruct exercises, using the proper biomechanics, to your patients, that address specific somatic dysfunctions. • Understand the appropriateness of when to integrate exercise with manual therapy |
