| | Here is a really fun, RETRO Gottlieb 2-Player pinball machine called ‘Duotron’. The year is 1974 and this is an ‘EM’ (Electro-Mechanical) pinball machine by Gottlieb. This one is in excellent condition. Please carefully review the photos below. This model has been in home use with one owner for a long, long time. The features of ‘Duotron’ include some of, Gottlieb’s most notable features including: ‘9 Rollovers’, ‘3 Thumper Bumpers; 2 ‘Kick-Back Lanes; a ‘Kick Out Hole’; a ‘Ball Return Gate’ and a very unique ‘Captive Ball’ feature that bounces back and forth to ‘boost the bonus score’, and, of course, the ever popular ‘SPECIAL WHEN LIT’ feature that yields a replay and the ‘THWACK’ sound so sought after by young teens of the ‘70’s! Check out the retro robotic theme and artwork on the backglass. It’s really cool, the robot’s eyes flash randomly when the game is not in play to entice you to play. ‘Duotron’ has several strategies. One is to guide the ball through the lit ‘A-B-C’ rollovers at the top of the playfield, and then shoot for the ‘SPECIAL WHEN LIT’ targets at the top of the playfield. Hitting the captive ball boosts your bonus score and landing the ball in the kickout hole scores an incrementally higher value with each shot and increases bonus value. ‘Duotron’ is a very fun, skill game by Gottlieb. Unlike Bally and Williams, Gottlieb specialized in more difficult, strategy driven games which require the player to carefully aim each shot. I have been playing it and it is truly addictive! It plays flawlessly and has that classic feel and SOUND! With the wide-open lower playfield, you can shoot the ball at many different angles. My favorite is to shoot it above one of the left or right rollovers, then the ball goes through the rollover then down to the kickback lane! The theme is family friendly and would make the perfect addition to your game or family room that the whole family would enjoy. Also, it would make the perfect gift for the pinball or ‘70’s memorabilia fan on your list.
This model is in excellent condition as evidenced in the below photos. The theme is ‘family friendly’. We have owned and restored many ‘EM’ pinballs, and is a very nice machine. This machine came out of a private home where it had been lightly used for the past 20 some odd years.
I restore old EM pinball machines and have personally replaced all bad coils, switch leafs, contacts, etc. as well as all light bulbs. The machine plays great and all features work properly. The thumper-bumpers are real strong and all of the targets work properly. The ‘Flippers’ still have their ‘punch’ just like when this machine was new. The playfield is in excellent condition with only a few minor blemishes, the colors are still very bright. I COMPLETELY stripped the playfield including the upper and lower aprons and ball return mechanism and replaced all rubber rings as well as broken or cracked posts and installed a new set of bumper caps and flipper island. I also applied a full 4 COATS of WAX to the playfield. All of the playfield plastics are pristine with no cracks or fading, with the exception of about a 0.5” crack in the ‘captive-ball’ plastic (please see photos). The backglass is in excellent condition with no areas of lifting or flaking paint. The back box metal door is included, (a component frequently missing on older machines). Also included are a new set of keys and locks for the coin door and the original lock for the back box door, the original set of head and leg bolts and leg levelers, a new ball and the ORIGINAL set of score cards. There is no doubt this machine was owned by a person who took care of his/her machine. The cabinet is in great shape with the ORIGINAL paint, all corner joints are very tight, but does have some minor scratches (see photos) and a bit of surface rust on the coin door. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a vintage pinball machine that is in excellent ORIGINAL condition! | |
