The Columbia River Gorge is a spectacular river canyon on the Washington-Oregon border. The Gorge is approximately 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep. Pictured above is Multnomah Falls plunging 620' from the top of Larch Mountain on the Oregon side of the gorge. On the right is Bonneville Dam, one of several federal lock and dam structures built on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, that, combined, are the largest source of electricity on the continent.
These are just two of the spectacular attractions to be found in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. A visit to Oregon without seeing the mighty and historic Columbia river and the Gorge would be like skipping the Grand Canyon because it's just another hole in the ground. Visit the various websites listed above to learn more about this wondrous American treasure. |
