The Thomas Reilley, Sr. Council 10668 at St. Francis is an active fraternal organization, open to all men of the parish 18 years of age or older. The council's primary focus centers on charity; helping the mentally challenged citizens of HH.  THe Knights also perform many other charitable and material works for the parish and St. Francis School.  4th Degree members serve as honor guard for the bishop when he participates in any parochial activities on the island and they attend patriotic celebrations on our island.

The local Knights Council members meet on the First and Third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Francis Family Center. The first meeting of the month is a business meeting, while the meeting on the third week of the month is a social meeting or other planned event.
 

Knights of Columbus Award Three Scholarships

Members of the Knights of Columbus and parishioners of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church asked their children and grandchildren to apply for Knights of Columbus scholarship awards. After evaluating the applications, the Thomas D. Reilley Sr., Council No. 10668 awarded three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, Megan Carey and Catherine T. Beley of Hilton Head Island, and Colin Donnelly of Chalfont, PA. One of the scholarship awards was donated and presented by Diane Boyle in memory of her late husband John, a member of the Council.

Megan Carey graduated from Hilton Head High School in Hilton Head Island, SC and will be attending the University of Notre Dame. Megan's high school average was 97.9. She graduated first in her class and was the senior class valedictorian. Megan was on the varsity track and lacrosse teams and captain of the cross country team. She was a National Honor Society President in 2007-2008, a Chamber of Commerce Junior Leader in 2006-2007, and Vice President of the Serteen Club in 2005-2006. Her volunteer work included Volunteers in Medicine, Humane Association, and the Heritage Golf Tournament. Megan is the daughter of Patrick and Mary Carey of Hilton Head Island.

Catherine T. Beley graduated from the Hilton Head Christian Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC and will be attending Providence College. Catherine's high school average was 96.9. She was on the varsity volleyball, soccer, and cheerleading teams, and was a National Honor Society President and a Student Council Delegate. Catherine's volunteer work included Volunteers in Medicine, Habitat for Humanity, Zonta Club, and served St. Francis by the Sea as a lector. Catherine is the daughter of James and Ellen Beley of Hilton Head Island.

Colin Donnelly graduated from Central Bucks High School South in Warrington, PA and will be attending the University of Pennsylvania. Colin's high school average was 92.3. He was on the varsity track team and was co-captain of the varsity football team. Colin was first team all league in football as a wide receiver, punter, and defensive back. He was also first team all league in track in the 4X100 meter relay and 100 meter dash. Colin was a National Honor Society member and Latin Honor Society member. Colin coached Powder Puff Football, and did volunteer work for the Red Cross, and was an altar server. Colin is the grandson of Deacon Joseph and Rose Nazzaro of Hilton Head Island.


LOCAL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL RECEIVES TOP INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Knights of Columbus Council 10668 of Hilton Head Island has earned the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top award, for the 2006-2007 fraternal year. The organization’s headquarters located in New Haven, Connecticut made the announcement. The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership recruitment and retention; promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service oriented activities. The Ninth consecutive award was presented to the membership by Robert Ficco, South Carolina State Deputy, to Past Grand Knight, Lee Sturm. In announcing the local winner of the Star Council Award, Carl A. Anderson, president of the international organization, said “Please accept my sincere congratulations upon attaining this prestigious award. The dedication to the principles and aims of the order shown by your officers and members is exemplified by the high standard of excellence you have achieved. At the same time, I encourage you to carry forward this enthusiasm to meet the challenges that will face the Knights of Columbus in the years ahead.” “The Star Council Award is quite an honor for us. We’re extremely proud of this accomplishment,” proclaimed Grand Knight Bob Killenberger, head of the local group.

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization with nearly 1.8 million dues-paying members in more than 12,000 councils worldwide. In 2006, they gave more than 60.8 million hours of volunteer service and donated over $129.5 million to charitable and benevolent causes.

 Local Knights Elect New Officers

At the regular business meeting held on June 9th, the Knights of Columbus, Thomas D. Reilley, Sr. Council 10668 on Hilton Head island elected its slate of officers for the 2008-2009 fraternal year.  The new officers are: Chaplain Fr. John Paul Pentareddy, Grand Knight - Bob Oppenheimer, Deputy Grand Knight - Brad Simpson, Chancellor - John Scanlan, Recorder - Kirby Sullivan, Financial Secretary - George Salemi, Treasurer - John Reda, Advocate - Bill Burger, Warden - Dave DeReamer, Lecturer - Tom Gloven, Inside Guard - Breeze Vannoni, Outside Guard - Edgel Blake, Trustee 1st Year - Hal Wieland, Trustee 2nd Year - Lee Sturm, Trustee 3rd Year - Bob Killenberger.

The installation took place on Sunday, June 29th at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church and was followed by a reception in the parish family center.  District Deputy Bill Jaillet, the Installing Officer, called the Council’s exemplary list of accomplishments an example of what the Knights of Columbus are all about and commented further, “I’m confident that under the new leadership, these accomplishments will continue”.  Incoming Grand Knight Bob Oppenheimer added that this will be an exciting year as the Council maintains its active role in the parish and strong commitment to the intellectually disabled in the community.
