The awesome stone lifting of a man named Knut Bjorvatn and his clan from the Cincinnati Strongman club inspired me to design these molds. Knut had the first set of Atlas Stones that I have ever laid eyes on or should I say left my skin on. Knut and his buddies motivated me out of being a rather poor stone lifter into maybe a not so bad amateur one. This is because before Knut moved back to Norway he asked if I would like to buy some of his stones. So guess what I got for Christmas that year? You guessed it! Four big Knut Christmas balls. The first Knut Stone weighed 255 lbs., which was fine until we started to try to shoulder it and my partner dropped it on his toe. It crushed it like it was a hard-boiled egg, so the doctor said. At that point we started to re-research on how to make a lighter stone so we could have a challenging shoulder stone with out a hospital bill. Well, we knew we could do better than the old Wal-Mart ball or Swiss Ball trick so after several brainstorms with Strongman, Machinists, foundry workers, Blacksmiths, employees and customers at my family Slater's hardware store we have came up with at the present time is darn good mold that makes an exceptional Atlas Stone. In about 1 hour, with our mold and about 5-40 lb. bags of concrete, 60 lbs. of Sand to pack the mold in and the proper size garbage can you can have one awesome homemade Atlas stone setting up in the mold. We have used these stones as soon as 1 week after a pour to train with but it is best to let them cure for 3 weeks for higher strength. The first-born stone that we did only weighed 116 lbs. and was perfect with the top being smooth and the bottom on the flat side being very slightly textured for added grip. A few of the best parts are that with this mold you can add in our lead inserts so you are able to have several different weighted stones with only one mold. This mold should also be good for several stones not just one! I don't know how many stones yet, but for the price of one mold, if you were to only get one stone out of it you will still save major bucks for the quality of stone you will get! Although we do not guarantee this we have had customers call us saying that they have made up to 30-50 stones out of one mold! Due to the mold business we do not offer refunds on molds unless they are defective or damaged during shipping. If anyone has any questions concerning these molds please feel free to e-mail me at steve@slatershardware.com or sslater1@columbus.rr.com.

Hints on Slater Stone Mold Inserts
Heavy Inserts Keep in Mind with one mold you could actually get 3 to 4 different stones of the same size that all weigh different. One stone with only concrete, one with 25 lb. weight insert and one with 50 lb. weight insert added and possibly a stone with a 25 lb. and 50 lb. weight inserts in it or even a custom insert. Lightening Inserts
For making proper lighter stones use our Lightening Inserts. You will need to insert this into the mold prior to filling the mold with concrete. The ball will have a nylon cord pulled through it. Take the bottom part of the mold and drill or poke a 1/4” hole in the bottom center of the mold . Pull the nylon cord through the hole, center the ball and tie off the cord underneath the mold in a few knots so it will not pull through. I would suggest that you tape the cord with gorilla or duct tape to the underside of the mold also. The reason tying the ball off from the bottom is because it will float in wet concrete and if you don’t tie it off it will float right to the top. When you add the mix do so slowly so the ball will start to float up and not be trapped in the bottom. Just make sure the ball is floating and you will be fine.
