The REEL-3 is specifically designed for use with a broad range of infants and toddlers who are at risk in the new multidisciplinary programs developing under P.L. 99-457. Speech pathologists, nurses, and educators interview a “significant other” (usually a parent) to determine if a child exhibits specific language behaviors.
The REEL-3 describes in detail the four usual stages of 132 observable, specific items of both receptive and expressive language skills as optimal target skills for direct language therapy. Results are given in terms of an Expressive Language Age, a Receptive Language Age, and a Combined Language Age.
