Senior Community Center Volunteer Opportunities Do you want to help out at the Senior Center, but you don’t know what help is needed? Here is a list of volunteer positions and a brief description of each.
Senior Center Associate– Sign up for 1/2 day per week, one day a week, or as a substitute. Associates are trained to run the building in the absence of the Director. Learn the ins and outs of the building and the programs. Call to sign up for the next Associate training, in September.
Volunteer Coordinator– Someone to call our volunteers to make them aware of volunteering opportunities.
Driver for Dial-a Ride- 6-passenger mini-van– To drive seniors to appointments and shopping on days and at times when the SweetHART bus is not available.
Meals on Wheels Drivers-Pick up meals at Grace Meadows in Southbury on Tuesday or Friday, OR– Pick up meals from the Senior Center kitchen, and deliver to the homes of recipients– anytime between 10:00 and 11:30 am. Drive one day a week, or substitute.
Refreshment volunteers- volunteers to prepare, serve and clean up refreshments that accompany programs.
Newsletter Writer/Publisher– Monthly newsletter needs someone to put together stories, lay them out, print, fold and prepare for mailing.
Garden Scheduler– Contact volunteers to coordinate a calendar of garden work days/times to plant, maintain and harvest.
Trip Coordinator– Choose a number of trips each year, give sign up details to newsletter editor and local newspapers, sign people up, handle the money, and accompany group on trip if necessary.
Adventure Club Volunteers– Join the current Adventure Club Volunteers to help choose and carry out programs.
Armchair Travel Program– This program requires volunteers interested in bringing programs to Roxbury that reflect cultures from many lands, and highlight issues affecting people all over the globe.
