Since 1987, Men's Residential Services has provided support to men with Congenital Rubella Syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by mental retardation with visual and hearing impairments. The program operates through contracts with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (MCB-Massachusetts Commission for the Blind).  Men's Residential Services helps individuals to function at home, at work, and in the community to the fullest extent of their abilities. The program creates and promotes opportunities for residents that lead to personal and social development and growth.

The philosophy of the program is that all persons, regardless of their mental or physical capabilities, have the right to live as "normal" a life as possible. As a result of certain severe mental and physical disabilities, some persons would never achieve this on their own. 

The program offers a high staff-to-client ratio of at least two staff with four individuals. This ensures client safety and allows for much individual attention and intensive teaching time. All of the individuals receive a highly individualized program designed around his particular needs.

The primary area of training for the individuals in the program are activities of daily living such as hygiene, dressing, and eating; communication skills such as sign language, pointing, and gestural cueing; education such as writing their names and money management; choice making; self-preservation training; socialization; arts and crafts; leisure skills and community resources utilization.

The staff serve as teachers, role models and companions for the individuals. In order to provide the highly structured and intensive training services, all staff are trained in sign language, first aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Strategies of Limiting Violent Episodes (SOLVE), Medication Administration Program (MAP), behavior management, health issues, creative leisure skills, personal development, and any other training that will enhance the lives of the residents.
