National Hall of Leadership - Nominate Your Favorite "Scouting Hero" As part of the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, the BSA has announced the "National Hall of Leadership". This recognition is designed to allow anyone to share stories about Scouts, Scout leaders, or other Scouting volunteers which demonstrate outstanding Scouting leadership through selfless and extraordinary acts of service. More specifically, each story should be about how an individual made/makes a significant difference in the lives of others by the extraordinary service they have given and the Scouting virtues they have modeled. Nominations for the Hall of Leadership are made on-line at www.scouting.org/100years on the Hall of Leadership page beginning June 1st, 2009. Stories must be 450 words or less. Each story serves as a nomination for the Hall of Leadership Recognition. There is no age limit for the individuals who are nominated. Any individual who has been active in Scouting for at east one year is eligible to be nominated. The nominating period here in the Old Hickory Council will end on December 31st, 2009. Each council may select up to 12 nominations to be considered for the National Hall of Leadership. Local judging will be conducted by a panel of community leaders representing a cross section of the council. The National Hall of Leadership team will select one Hall of Leadership nominee from each of the 304 local Scout councils. These recipients will be recognized at the BSA National Annual Meeting in May, 2010. Throughout the year, the Old Hickory Council and the BSA will be sharing many of the Hall of Leadership stories with our Scouting families and with our communities, as examples of the incredible value and relevancy of Scouting today and in the future. Locally all 12 semifinalists will be recognized at council anniversary events and have their stories placed in local publications and in other media. All nominations made will be recognized on the district level at roundtables and local anniversary events. So if you know someone who you believe has had an extraordinary impact on a Scout, a unit, a district, the council or their community drop by the 100th BSA Anniversary web site shown above and place your nomination today!
