| Before you begin your trip planning there are several items you should know before traveling in Costa Rica. Regions: The country can be divided into seven major geographical areas each unique as to the wildlife, flora and fauna, level of accommodations, and activities available. Click here for a description of each area and select the ones that interest you the most. Then we can assist you in putting together an itinerary that takes you to those places maximizing your time in each location. Travel Documentation: Passports are required for all US citizens. Be sure to carry a copy of your passport and keep in a separate place to facilitate issuing a new one in the event of loss. Health: No inoculations or vaccinations are required as a condition for entry however it is good to consult your physician or local health department for further information and recommendations. Costa Rica has an excellent medical system with modern hospitals and health services available throughout the country. Currency: The national currency is the colon. US dollars can easily be exchanged at your hotels once you are in the country as long as you have small denominations. US dollars are also widely accepted at various venues with change given in colones. Credit cards are also readily accepted at most larger establishments while ATMs are still difficult to find. Travel Insurance: We offer travel insurance through Travel Insured International. It is highly recommended that you consider travel insurance in case of necessary cancellations, travel delays, lost baggage, or medical emergency. An informational brochure and application are provided at your request or upon confirming a trip. Pre-departure Information: Upon confirming a trip a complete book of travel information is provided that will give you advise on packing suggestions, tipping, general information about Costa Rica, emergency contact numbers, and a suggested reading list to enhance your trip. |
