9-DAY COSTA RICA FAMILY EXPLORATION
From $2000/adult, $975/child
This trip will start with a scenic drive to Poas Volcano for a gaze down into the steam cauldron of its colorful crater, one of the widest and deepest in the world. Then you will be driven through coffee plantations and small villages to the Central Pacific Coastline. Miles of sandy white beaches and forest trails have made this one of the most popular areas in Costa Rica. You may view migrating marine birds. The waters are crystal clear, making these beaches popular for snorkeling. The surf is gentle, great for swimming, body surfing, playing with a boogie board, or just relaxing.
From the coast, you will be taken up to the mountains. One of Costa Rica's highlights includes a visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve - the richest, and most complex tropical cloud forest in the New World. It is best known as home to the Resplendent Quetzal, but protects hundreds of other birds, mammals and plant species as well as reptiles, amphibians and insects.
From Monteverde, you will travel to the Arenal Volcano in the northwestern region of Costa Rica. Arenal offers visitors a rare opportunity to view one of the world's most active volcanoes. After sleeping quietly for over 400 years Arenal erupted with tremendous force during July 29-31, 1968. "A lunar landscape" was created by the volcano when several square miles were covered by rocks, lava and ash. Over twenty years later Arenal continues to erupt, but at a smaller scale.
