Our Haunted House
The site of Maine-ly Sewing is known to be a haunted house. It is the homestead of Joshua Benner built in 1825. Joshua built the house for himself and his new bride. She died before getting settled in the house, and she is the ghost who resides here. It is told you can hear her footsteps upstairs and feel her presence in what used to be the kitchen.

Over the years the residence became a boarding house for those passing through to get down east Maine to enjoy the ocean. It also became a spot where boot leg liquor could be bought. It is even told there was lynching of one of the Benner’s who tried to cheat someone out of liquor. Over time it also became an antique dealer’s home where another Benner peddled all kinds of antiques.
In its later years it was a dinner house and is now known as Maine-ly Sewing, a full service quilt shop with fabrics with international flare, traditional and whimsical.
The shop is located on scenic U.S. Route One, along the coast of Maine. Portland is one hour south and Camden is 30 minutes north.
