Dear Parent,
You are vital to your child's soccer success and fun!
There are few things more delightful than sharing a green field with the communities' children at play.
Lenape Valley Soccer Club wants your child to have a wonderful experience playing the great game of soccer. This is a family adventure. As a Club, we are a community of families.
With the exception of miracles, most wonderful experiences are the result of organization, planning and work. It is the same for LVSC. Lenape Valley Soccer Club is an all-volunteer organization. The many people who contribute time to this Club, do it for no compensation or perks. They do it because they want this experience for their own children. They do it because they enjoy associating with other great parents who share this vision.
You are invited to be a member of this soccer community. We register families, not just kids. The Club is now about 20 years old, however, please do not take it for granted. This not a privilege you get for paying taxes. It is an opportunity, and a necessity, for each parent to demonstrate to their own children what they are doing within the club to support their child and their friends playing soccer.
You can not, in good conscience, put your child in LVSC programs without yourself committing to contribute some of your time, effort and talent.
All the work required is contributed by parent volunteers. If every parent does a small job and does it well, this club will remain a strong, vital organization. If every parent demonstrated his or her responsibility, then there is accountability. Enthusiasm breeds more enthusiasm. Support breeds more support. Much will be accomplished and, even more important, our kids will be in a better supportive community. They will become citizens who have learned by example to do the same for their own future children.
LVSC knows everybody is too busy, we know families are stretched. It is not just LVSC, all organizations are faced with the same challenge. Registration fees are the absolute minimum necessary to pay for expenses. Much more could be assessed. However, LVSC will not use money to overcome this problem, because it really cannot. This is about our community kids and parents participating in the joy of their kids at play. Today kids do not get to simply play and have enough fun. This is just what intramural and travel soccer provides.
LVSC is not a business. LVSC is not a private club. We are not exclusive. We provide for all the kids. We do not own fields, there is no clubhouse, etc. The Club maintains the position that we must put our faith and trust in the community. We depend on the parent's voices within their municipalities to express that it is vital for our community's kids that fields and other amenities are provided. LVSC is just a parental structure, which provides administration and supervision for the activity of community soccer.
Let's put this in perspective. The combined intramural and travel programs have approximately 700 and 1,300 kids registered each spring and fall. In the Lenape Valley, there are more kids playing soccer than any other club sport. In fact, LVSC provides more children the opportunity to enjoy supervised team play than the two local Middle Schools and CB West combined. Pretty amazing!
So, Parent, where can you contribute? Just ask. There is a list of amazingly simple tasks which need to be done. Some jobs are on the field, some are administrative. Always needed are people willing to organize and administer. We need coordination of this, that, and the other.
Each parent can make a positive contribution. LVSC has done well, but we can always become a better club.
You are wonderful people, Best Regards, Lenape Valley Soccer Club |
The Volunteer jobs which must get done ! Each Age Group needs to have a group of volunteer coordinators which basically mirror the Club Board. Because the families of similar aged kids move through the program together, each age group's parents parents become a well intrgrated team. It is hoped voluntees will keep these roles as they continue through the program. |
Age Group Coordinator(s): One or more persons required. Reports to the Club Intramural Coordinator. Is generally responsible for the smooth operation of his/her particular age group. Sets up the initial "age group kick-off meeting where coaches and kids are assigned to teams. Address concerns of coaches and parents and represents the special needs of this age group to the LVSC Board.
|
Equipment Coordinator: Reports to the Club Equipment Coordinator. At beginning of season, helps make up equipment bags for the teams in his/her age group. Distributes bags at the start up meeting. Gets all the equipment back at end of season, returns it to the shed and makes up an inventory of what needs replacing.
|
Age Group Field Coordinator: Reports to the Club Field Coordinator. At beginning of season organizes the "field set up day" with all the general field crew from his/her age group where the field(s) are set up and lined. Makes schedule assigning teams their responsibility for re-lining of field during season.
|
Team Communications Manager: Write up team activiites 2-3 times during the season. Writeups to include players name and to include who made a good pass, who had a proper throw in, who had a goal, who scored a goal with their head, who scored a goal with their weaker foot, who demonstrated good sportsmanship, who demonstrated the love of the game and any other team activities. These reports should be submitted to the age group coordinator.
|
|
Team Manager: Coordinate team snack schedule and end of year party.
|
Coach: Coaching is perhaps the most rewarding and satisfying way to contribute. This is time spent on the field with your child and his friends. If you like kids, then do not hesitate to be a coach. Experience is not required. There is plenty of information available to help you. We try to provide 3 coaches per team so there is support and backup for all coaches. Coaches, without you, there is no opportunity for the kids.
|
Referee: Referees are a very important part of the game. Refs get to interact with kids in a very positive way. They are "on-field" teachers. Remember, in Intramural to object is to maintain fun, safe environment for sportsman like competition. Soccer is a game of very limited rules. The Club will provide training. Experience is not required.
|
General Field Crew: At beginning of season "field day," participate in layout, setup and lining of your age group fields. During season, re-line your team field when it is your team's turn. During season, take your turn helping the referee with sideline flags.
|
Equipment Crew: Assist Equipment Coordinator with making equipment bags, placing nets on goals, securing goals to ground and moving goals to specified locations at end of season. |
