| The last turtle race of the season brought out a large contingent of racers. Two Hundred Sixty Four racers came in to Longville for the 2007 finale. The races are the last hurrah in Longville before the Minnesota State Fair and Labor Day Weekend.
Turtle racing is only part of the fun in Longville each Wednesday. A host of young and old participated in Hula Hoop contests and dance contests. Plus, several hundred played the county fair type games. Both adults, kids, and youth love to dance the four dance contests. Youth from the audience volunteer to come up on the turtle mobile stage to lead the dances. Alanna Bram of Rochester led the Macarena dance contest. Madeline Earley of Fridley, MN led the Hokey Pokey dance contest. Molly Krook of Oakdale, MN; Catlin Pott of Lake Elmo, MN; and Ariana McCuskey of Minneapolis, MN led the YMCA dance contest. The always popular Chicken Dance singers dazzled their audience as they sang out the words to the dance as the others competed for dance prizes. The Chicken Dance Singers included: Elle Bausch of Mendota Heights, MN; Samantha Shaick of Burnsville, MN; Jessica Kledzinski of Albertville, MN and Kailey Link of SpringValley, MN.
Ten Resorts participated in the battle for the best resort turtle racer. They were: Kee-Nee-Moo-Sha Resort, Sugar Point Resort, Broadwater Lodge, Cedar Bay Resort, All Seasons Resort, Pine Ridge Resort, Camp O’My Dreams, Timber Trails Resort, Little Boy Resort, and Woman Lake Resort.
The winner, taking the honors as this week’s best resort racer was two-year-old Zakary Wise of Albertville, MN, who with his family was vacationing at Sugar Point Resort.
The finals for the green ribbon turtle race produced a tie. The winners were nine-year-old Gabe Dertineger of Becker, MN and four year old Matthew Smith of Allenpark, Michigan. The white ribbon Grand Slowpoke winner was six-year-old Kelly Jankowski of Darien, IL.
