Turtle Race Winners

| A perfect afternoon in mid-August brought out a large crowd to watch 277 turtle racers compete for the coveted honor of being the Grand Champion Racer and Grand Champion Slowpoke Racer.
The honors went to two young people from different parts of the Midwest.
Grand Champion honors went to fifteen-month-old Ashley Steffes of Farmington, Minnesota and the Grand Champion Slowpoke honors went to eleven-year-old Evan Johnson of Dexter, Michigan.
An energetic group of youth participated in the hula-hoop contests along with a large group of moms, dads, and grandmas and grandpas.
Dancing contests were again very popular on Wednesday with some of the best dancers of the summer competing. Leading the Macarena dance for the youth and adult dancers were Caitlin Stagnaro, Longville; Amy Motz, Cottage Grove, MN; and Ellis McBrayer, Cedar Rapids, IA. Leading the Hokey Pokey dance for the youth and adult dancers were Cathyrn Stagnaro, Longville; Emily Rae Burke, Seattle, WA; and Maddie Schmidt, St. Michael, MN. Leading the YMCA dance for the youth and adult dancers were Will Richards, Forest Lake; Amanda Jaworowski, Brooklyn Park; Lexa Lukes, Luther Dell counselor from Brooklyn Park and Natalie Sasseville, Luther Dell counselor from Bloomington. Chicken Dance Singers were Connor Schmidt, St. Michael, MN; Nathan Gibson, Kingsport, TN; Michelle Buechner, Brooklyn Center, MN, Christa Gibson, Kingsport, TN; and Emma Pflugshaupt, Hackensack.
Eight resorts participated in the Resort Turtle Race. They were Camp 0’ My Dreams, Timber Trails Resort, Idle-A-While Resort, Minne Teepee Resort, Evergreen Resort, Woman Lake Lodge, Balsam Bay Resort, and Pine Ridge Resort. The winner was eight-year-old Kayla Vait of Clearwater, MN who with her family was vacationing at Idle-a-While Resort.
The last turtle race of the 2007 season is on Wednesday, August 22. Registration begins at 1 p.m. Games and contests follow and racing begins at 2 p.m.
