| It could be described as Another Day In Paradise on Wednesday as one of the summers largest crowd of turtle racers assembled at the starting line on mainstreet in downtown Longville.
The spectators and the racers were especially enthusiastic on this day as they participated in hula hoop contests, dance contests and games.
The hula hoop contests were especially popular as nearly 175 kids and adults vied for the coveted prizes as best hula hoopers. Then there were the dance contests.
The macarena dance contest was led by Hanna Sanderman, Natalie Beiter and Alexa Goodman, all vacationing here with their families.
The Hokey Pokey dance was led by vacationers Hannah Fletcher, Kristi Atzen and Nick Reynolds.
The singers for the Chicken Dance, this week, were all from Iowa. They were the Atzen Clan visiting their grandparents, Gordon and Peg Atzen on Woman Lake. The eight grandchildren had practiced the Chicken Dance Song all week and were in great voice as they grabbed the microphones, like old pros, donned chicken hats and sang their heart out. They were Madi, Zach, Lexi, Peyton, Devyn, Ben, Riley, and Jacob.
The YMCA Dance was led by vacationers Jody Holman, Tori Harvey and Heidi Lenort.
There were many birthdays and anniversaries celebrated at the Turtle Races and each received a free ice cream cone.
Promptly at 2 p.m. the races began. The first race of the day is always the resort race where the representatives from the resorts battle it out for the best turtle racer.
On this day 1-1/2 year old Kallie Babcock of Red Wing won the Resort Turtle Race, representing Little Ponderosa Resort. There were six resorts battling for the grand prize. They included, Little Ponderosa Resort, Austins Swamp, Pine Haven Resort, Timber Trails Resort, Pine Ridge Resort, and Little Boy Resort.
There were a total of 401 racers that competed for the honor of the best fast racer and best slowpoke racer. In the end, nineteen year old Rene Alonzo of Joliet IL, was the Grand Champion and Five year old Martha Kelzer of Richfield, MN won the Grand Slowpoke Championship.
