History of Kacer's Homemade Kielbossa
Frank III, Genuine 3rd Generation of Kacer's Homemade Kielbossa!
Frank's father began making kielbossa in Waymart in 1953, and we're still in the same spot, doing the same thing, the same way . . . it's that simple.  As a boy, Frank III watched his father bone grind and mix the sausage.  Now, Frank still uses the same mixer and grinder Dad did in the 1960's!  As Frank grew in the business, word spread of the kielbossa coming out of the humble little store that actually put Waymart on the map.  People have come from Alaska to Zanzibar!  Our kielbossa has travelled to many foreign countries, taken by customers or shipped to family in the military (Korea, Viet Nam, Panama)
and even to Russia.

Kacer's "Country" Market
In a world of automation, some people take pride in working with their hands.  Resisting the meat industry's trend toward mass production and automation, Frank Kacer III still makes kielbossa the old-fashioned way . . . from scatch, just like his father (the late Frank Kacer Sr.) did.  Frank Kacer Sr. learned how to make kielbossa from his father, who immigrated to America from Slovakia.  He in turn, taught his son.

After working in the Pennsylvania coal mines for a time,
Frank Kacer Sr. peddled meat from a horse and wagon.
Then he went to New York City and worked in a German butcher shop.
Since no one in the shop spoke English, Frank Sr. had to learn the language of the people.  Many of the customers were immigrants that came to America from Poland, Germany, Russia and Italy.  In the late 1930's, Frank Sr. returned to Pennsylvania working for Acme Markets.  After spending 25 years, at that company, he felt it was time that he went out on his own.he
met Mr. Frank Gaydosh (owner of a chain of Big Chief Markets) and became meat manager at the Big Chief Market in Honesdale. he agreed to work for Frank until the meat dept. was restored to the profit

making entity it should be.  After three months, Mr. gaydosh agreed to sell Dad his Waymart  location.

The actual establishment of the business where Kacer's Market currently stands, began over a century ago.  In 1953, Frank Sr. and his wife Mae bought the Stevenson/Ramble General Store . . . and so began Kacer's Big Chief Market!  At that time, it was part of Frank Gaydosh's chain of Big Chief Markets (some customers still refer to it as that).  After leaving the coal mines himself, 25 years under ground being enough,  Frank Sr.'s brother, Peter Kacer, worked at the store full-time, until retirement.

The Kacer children, Frank III, and twins Michael and Mary helped out early in their life.  Michael still lives in Waymart while Mary married John Andzulis and moved to Pittstown, N.J.  Frank III's beloved children . . . Karen Watson -  Lansdale,Pa.,. Christine Notchick - Honesdale, P.A., and Susan Davis and family,  Honesdale. . also worked in the store when they were in high school.  Naturally, Kacer's Market has provided employment to hundreds of local residents over the years.  Some are now Dr.'s, refigeration men, Large  Grocery store mgrs.,

and other leading professional positions. Heck, one is even a Tax Collector!
