 Dear prayer partners,
We arrived home safely last Sunday afternoon. We are once again grateful to our Lord for His faithfulness and grace extended to us on journey # 7 to Mongolia. The first 2 ½ weeks were spent in three different remote areas approximately 300 miles north of Ulaan Bataar…..over mostly bumpy, dusty roads. Our Mongolian co-workers were amazing as usual….servant attitudes, loving and fervent evangelists.
The first 2 places were new and strongly Buddhist yet all of our patients (around 200 ) heard about Jesus and the majority desired to give their lives to Him. Our third stop was a place in which we had worked three years ago. Our sponsors, Christian Veterinary Mission or Vet Net, have been working there since our visit and it was rewarding to see God’s hand in planting His church. We returned to UB ( Ulaan Bataar) in time get James Bond on the airplane and work on the Vet Net staff for three days. Another aspect of Mongolia that I love is that people for the most part love to come to the dentist and our work is greatly appreciated. There are also no staff problems or threats of malpractice. The last 2 ½ weeks we went south to the Gobi and worked in 3 different remote areas. When we arrived in the second place a group of about 200 “old people” were coming together to celebrate their many years instead of trying to hide them. How refreshing to be around them! The next day a 90 year old woman we had met the day we arrived came to the clinic to have one of her two remaining teeth removed. I asked her about the beads she was carrying in her hands. She explained they were Buddhist Tibetan prayer beads and when she prayed over each bead it represented good works. I shared Jesus wanted us to do good works but our place in heaven is not based on works but faith in Jesus Christ. My interpreter who led 28 of her family members to Christ then became involved in lengthy discussion. The interpreters sister had also shared Jesus with her before she came into our treatment room. When the 90 year woman left she gave us a big hug…and kiss with gauze in her mouth. She then went back into the hallway and asked the sister to explain to her again what “the dentist and his helper” had shared about Jesus. After more discussion she gave her life to Jesus. It’s never to late to come to Jesus as long as we are breathing!
There had been a couple from Australia who had worked a month this summer in the first Gobi area at which we worked. Before leaving UB I thanked her for plowing the soil before our work. She thanked us for going and reminded me “the field needs watering.” It’s so encouraging to see the Mongolians going back to these places 3-5 times each year to do the watering. We worked on over 800 patients. They all heard about Jesus. Many have given their lives to Him. Let’s all be faithful in praying for what God is doing and has done in Mongolia. God’s blessings to you all and thank you for your vital prayers in our work.
One in Christ
