Dear special doctor friend,
We’re leaving August 17th for year # 7 in Mongolia. You should have received a prayer letter today on details. The attached photo was taken at a Mongolian prison in the Gobi desert. The patient is the father of one of the workers. Stew Bowen, the assistant chaplain at Pierce Co. Jail was with me on this trip. As we worked primarily on prisoners I had my interpreter ask each patient if they had ever heard about Jesus Christ. Many had never heard His name. Regardless of their answer my second question was “would you like to hear about Him….or hear more about Him ?” One tough looking patient we asked who was serving time for murder told my interpreter he was a believer in Jesus and we could get on with his treatment. This was the only and the first patient to make this statement. The next morning Stew was sitting alone at table in the prison yard. As soon as he was seated the patient who had told us he believed in Jesus came and wanted to talk. He first confessed he lied to the dentist (me). He then related how he had been awake all night under heavy conviction he had lied to me and to God. Finally in the early morning hours he confessed his lie to Jesus, asked forgiveness and wanted serve Jesus instead of himself. It was a great lesson in the power of the Holy Spirit and that God still does the impossible when we recognize who Jesus really is and turn our lives over to Him. As long as we are breathing it’s never to late to recognize we are sinners and Jesus is the only way to peace, joy and forgiveness. Because of Calvary, Bill |
