Mercury- Off The Lip
She's got the write touch.

Hannah Goodman's basic approach to writing might seem like a revised Nike ad campaign - push back your fears and just go for the story. It's the philosophy the former Middletown High School English teacher uses to help others unleash the writer within them in a series of classes she teaches through the Warren Chamber of Commerce. And it's what guided Goodman to complete and self-publish her first book in 2004, "My Sister's Wedding," about a teenaged girl named Maddie Hickman who dreams of being a writer. The Bristol resident last month published her second book, "My Summer Vacation," which continues her protagonist's adventures.

'You're all just prejudiced, not to mention stupid.'

Two years ago I published my first novel, “My Sister’s Wedding,” that features a 15-year-old girl struggling with the many alcoholics in her life. Maddie, the protagonist, and my alter-ego teenage self, happens to be Jewish in the same way she also happens to have brown eyes (both are traits of my own). More >>

An Interview with Young Adult Novelist
Hannah R. Goodman

By Sheila Bender

Earlier this year, Hannah R. Goodman emailed me about her book, My Sister's Wedding, a young adult novel she published in 2004 that addresses the effects of alcoholism on individuals, friends and families and asked me if I would like a copy. The topic was on my mind as I had only recently spoken to an organic farm owner who hosted a 22-person poetry workshop connected with Evergreen College. More >>

Self-Esteem and the Self-Published Author - Special Edition
By Hannah R. Goodman

Hannah Goodman is the author of My Sister's Wedding, a young adult novel that addresses the effects of alcoholism on individuals, friends and families. She self-published it in 2004 and now often presents lectures on self-publishing and shares the steps involved, the pitfalls and how to avoid them, but the important part she says is believing in oneself and being confident in one's own definition of success. Hannah uses the personal essay form to evoke the way she is tested and retested on this attitude. Describing her journey, she informs her readers about the "authority" in the role of author and how those of us who write struggle to hold onto it.

"Hannah Goodman has written a wonderfully witty, engrossing and hilarious novel about sisters and their relationships. Her prose is dead on and her scenes flow effortlessly from one to the other. I can't remember the last time I stayed up to finish a book, but I had to finish My Sister’s Wedding!"
Rosemary O’Brien, Author of First Saturday

In the 2005 fall issue of East Bay Living, syndicated columnist cited several famous authors like Grisham and Patricia Cornwell as her favorite authors.  She also added, "I also like local authors.  There's a young adult book (My Sister's Wedding) by Hannah Goodman, a teacher who lives in Bristol (RI). It has great dialogue."
