I am married with three children, ages 17, 15 and 13.  My wife Martha is an RN.  We have lived in Portland for 14 years.  I went to law school at Lewis and Clark in the early 1980’s and then went to San Francisco, where I practiced for seven years.  In 1991, we moved back to Portland.  My favorite thing in life is a good bicycle ride.

I do civil and criminal law.  My civil practice focuses on personal injury and construction cases.  I have represented plaintiffs in major personal injury and wrongful death cases arising from auto collisions, workplace injuries, and slips and falls.  My construction experience goes back to work I did before entering law school when I worked as a laborer with a small construction company.  That experience has helped me representing builders and owners in construction disputes.

My criminal work covers federal and state cases.  I have tried many cases in both courts, and I have represented defendants on the most serious charges, including aggravated murder, sex offenses, assaults, arsons, DUII, and others.  If you have a criminal problem, the most important initial advice is don’t talk to the authorities.  Hire a lawyer.
