Far West Rice is a family-owned company specializing in high quality California rice.  C. William Johnson a rice grower from Chico California founded the company in 1985.  His vision was to provide himself and a select group of growers a marketing alternative to the large, impersonal marketers dominating the rice milling scene at the time.  The next part of his vision would be uncompromising quality. Johnson knew the key to quality would include selection and specialization.  To achieve this, a specially designed mill was needed.  He envisioned a mill that would work with small, select quanties of rice, providing a superior quality than large volume millers. The result of this collective vision was a platform upon which to build a viable market niche.

After years of planning, diligence and dedication, Far West Rice continues to mill and market the highest quality rice grown in California.  In addition, FWR continues to fulfill its two-fold mission: to provide customers with the best tasting rice and growers with an efficient, market access opportunity.  Our experience and integrity helps us develop a premium product fostering the longevity of our customer relationships.
