Primers and Sealers

Many of our floor coating systems start with a coat of low-viscosity epoxy or acrylic primer that penetrates, seals and reinforces concrete floors, mechanically bonding to the concrete surface and creating a uniform bonding surface for subsequent applications.  The low-viscosity primer coat soaks into the surface of the substrate and aids in the prevention of "outgassing," which can occur with more viscous coatings.

We also offer a stand-alone, transparent or colored, epoxy sealers designed especially for penetrating and sealing concrete floors.  These sealers form tough, smooth and glassy surfaces that reduce "dusting", are easy to maintain and are resistant to oil, gasoline, solvents and most acids.

Waterproof Membranes

For interior applications we will install a system that is a composite, waterproofing membrane for use beneath tile, marble and certain types of trowled composition flooring.  A flexible epoxy resin/polyurethane composition that provides waterproofing and crack reduction is also available.  These systems are typically used on surfaces located over occupied spaces that need protection from water intrusion, such as bathrooms, showers, walkways, mechanical equipment rooms, medical  facilities, kennels, and commercial kitchens.

For exterior applications we will install a multi-layered, waterproof system that is designed for roof surface areas subject to normal foot traffic and deck furniture.  This system is applied in a series of troweled coatings which form, successively, an elastic latex membrane, an integral composition flashing and a flexible, rubber/cement traffic surface.  A "slip sheet" separates the system from the surface it covers and permits it to float over normal building cracks and movement.  The total thickness of the system is 3/16"-1/4" and can be applied over plywood or existing promenade surfaces such as quarry tile, flagstone, etc.  Typical uses for this waterproofing system include promenade roofs, sun decks, and play decks.

Also availabe for exterior applications is a trowel-applied, elastomeric surfacing system designed for use as a waterproof promenade roofing for pedestrian and vehicular applications.  This system consists of a moisture-cured resin binder into which a rubber aggregate is combined at time of application to for a tough, elastic, waterproof membrane.  A topcoat, available in a range of colors is then applied.  The material is turned up against building walls and parapets, etc.  to form an integral waterproof membrane.  This system can be applied over plywood, new and existing concrete and metal.  Typical uses for this waterproofing system include promenade roofs, sun decks, rooftop tennis courts, balconies, as well as protective covering for renovating cracked sidewalks, parking structures, pool decks, etc.

Crack Sealers

Control joints and sawcuts are placed into concrete when it is installed to control movement and cracking of the slab.  Ervin Specialty Coatings uses flexible epoxies that are formulated to move and flex with the movement of the control joints and saw cuts.

If the concrete floor has a crack that is moving, we will treat it like a control joint and fill it with the flexible epoxy.  Cracks that are not moving and smaller cracks will be filled with a crack filler that is compatible with the installed floor coating system.

Wall Coatings

Ervin Specialty Coatings installs fiberglass reinforced epoxy wall coating systems.  These systems provide a seamless wall-to-ceiling-to-floor surface that is easy to clean and maintain. Combining high impact and chemical resistance, this wall system is the ideal system for use in commercial kitchens, clean rooms, operating rooms, and animal care facilities. Depending on weight of fiberglass used, installed thickness ranges from 6 to 40 mils, this wall coating system can be incorporated into seamless floor cove base applications.

Wall coating systems include the following features:

• USDA approved
• Easy to maintain
• High Impact Resistance
• Seamless surface to inhibits bacteria growth
• Low Odor for use in occupied areas (No VOCs)
• Optional anti-microbial agent
• Optional chemical resistant finish
