Mildred M. Gehrt

Mildred M. Gehrt, age 93 of Embarrass, WI passed away Friday morning March 12, 2010 at her residence.

Mildred was born on September 18, 1916 in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County.  She was the daughter of the late Louis and Mathilda (Koepsel) Balke.  On October 6, 1937 Mildred was united in marriage to Louis Gehrt in Embarrass where the couple were members of the Zion Lutheran Church.  As a faithful member at Zion, Mildred spent many years with the Ladies Aid.  Louis preceded his wife in death on December 25, 1977.  Mildred’s family was very important to her.  Her grandchildren & great-grandchildren were her greatest joys in life.  Mildred also loved to bake, and as her family would tell you, her coffee cakes were the greatest.  She greatly enjoyed crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitching, and was a beautiful seamstress.

Her Daughters:  Eileen (Neil) Strauss, Shawano.

                           Mary (Steve) Stoffel, Appleton.

Her Sons:  Louis & Ronald Gehrt, Embarrass.

Her Grandchildren:  Rick (Carolyn) Strauss, Shawano.

                                 Nicole (Mike) Claffey, Neenah.

                                 Heather (Jeff) Kraus, Appleton.

Her Great-Grandchildren:  Katie & Nash Strauss, and Jayden Kraus.

Also many nieces & nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis, a sister Vera Jesse, and a brother Willis Balke.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 15, 2010 at 12 Noon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass with the Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating.  Interment will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery also in Embarrass.

Norman E. Pietz

 

Norman E. Pietz, age 81 of the Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County, WI, passed away Saturday morning March 6, 2010 at St. Joseph Residence in New London, WI.

Norman was born on April 15, 1928 in Symco, WI.  He was the son of the late Arthur and Hilda (Bartel) Pietz.  On August 29, 1953 Norman was united in marriage to Lucille Stilen at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco.  During this time Norman was employed by Bergstrom’s Paper Mill and later at Hardwood Products both in Neenah.  Then in 1964 he and Lucille began farming in the Town of Deer Creek while at the same time Norman worked at the F.W.D. Seagrave Inc. in Clintonville retiring from both in 1998.  Also in 1964, Norman and Lucille became members of the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville where he was active in various activities including ushering.  He was also a past member of the Bear Creek Lion’s Club for many years.  Norman enjoyed traveling with Lucille and was a huge Green Bay “Packer Backer”.  To say Norman was an outdoorsman would be an understatement.  He greatly enjoyed turkey hunting, deer hunting, and trout fishing, but loved waterfowl hunting. 

Survivors include:  His Wife:  Lucille.

3 Sisters:  Lucille Drath, Manawa; Alice (Duaine) Bartel, Ogdensburg; & Margaret Pietz, Clintonville.

Also numerous other relatives and friends including nieces & nephews, his “Little John Deere Buddy” Clayton Kauth, and his longtime friend Kenneth Miller.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gertrude Wartner, Deborah Flink & Judy Drath who were very sadly missed niece’s of Norman’s, as well as John Thurn who was a beloved friend of Norman's. 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 9, 2010 at 11:30 AM at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Daniel Burns & the Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating.  Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville in the Spring.

Ione M. Holtz

Ione Marie Holtz, age 96 of St. Joseph Residence, New London, formerly of Clintonville, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the New London Family Medical Center.

Ione was born on June 15, 1913 in Gresham, WI the daughter of the late Frank and Sarah (Hoffmann) Allen. She was also raised in Gresham and at the age of 16 was united in marriage to Marvin E. Holtz in Shawano. The couple had lived in Hollister, WI, Milwaukee and Gresham before moving to upper Michigan. In 1983, they moved to Clintonville where they lived the rest of their married life. Mr. Holtz preceded his wife in death on May 25, 1995. Ione enjoyed reading and was a member of the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville.

Her daughter Frances “Cookie” Mills, Lake Linden, MI

Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren

Her sister: Betty Mae Hawkins, Missouri

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville with the Rev. Christian Burg officiating. Spring interment will be in the Langlade Cemetery, Township of Wolf River, Langlade County, WI

Robert L. Radtke, Sr.

Robert Lee Radtke, Sr., age 72, of the Township of Larrabee Waupaca County, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, peacefully at his home.

Robert was born on August 2, 1937 in Shawano, the son of the late Martin and Evelyn (Siebers) Radtke. He graduated from Marion High School and later completed agricultural courses in Madison. Robert had driven milk truck for Buss Cheese Factory, Caroline, then worked at Simmons Juvenile Products, New London all while dairy farming in the Township of Grant, Shawano County. Robert retired from Simmons and moved to his present farm in the Township of Larrabee. In 1979, his friend and companion, LaVerne Kuehl joined Robert on the farm until her death in 2008. In earlier years, Robert raced stock cars in Shiocton and Shawano and also played piano and clarinet. His hobbies included listening to polka music, tinkering and fabricating, attending auctions and driving his Amish friends.

Arlene H. Zehren

Arlene H. Zehren, age 85 of Clintonville passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday morning February 28, 2010 at the Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clintonville.

Arlene was born on May 28, 1924 in Clintonville.  She was the daughter of the late Art and Elda (Noak) Krueger.  On November 17, 1951 Arlene was united in marriage to Donald H. Zehren at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville where she was still a current faithful member.  As a young woman she was employed as an operator at the Urban Telephone Company in Clintonville and also at the Clintonville Hospital as a nurse’s aid for a number of years.  Arlene loved bowling.  She bowled on a women’s league in Clintonville for many years and shared her passion with her husband bowling in many couple’s leagues.  She also enjoyed taking trips with Don whether it was to Arizona, California, or just to the local casino.  Don preceded his wife in death on December 15, 2005.  Arlene was a very caring, giving, and hard working farmwife and a wonderful mother.  She was very proud of her farm and enjoyed the many animals from her barn cats and dogs to her chickens, cattle, and geese.

Survivors include:  Her Daughter:  Cindy (Jerry) Krueger, Clintonville.

Her Son:  Terry (Phyllis) Zehren, Clintonville.

Her Granddaughter:  Alea Zehren, Clintonville.

A Sister:  Linda Devlin, Oshkosh.

Also many nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, 2 sisters; Melda Honish & Verona Splittgerber, and 2 brothers; Harold & Gerhardt Krueger.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 4, 2010 at 11 AM at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Jack Mullarkey officiating.  Interment will follow at the parish cemetery also in Clintonville.

Margaret M. Werth

Margaret Mabell Werth, age 88 of Clintonville, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.

Margaret was born on August 26, 1921 in Plover, WI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Moore) Gyrion. She was united in marriage to Ward Joslin Werth on February 27, 1939 in Marion. The couple first lived in the Township of Menasha and later moved to a farm in the Township of Matteson, Waupaca County. Margaret not only worked with her husband on the farm, she also tended to a large vegetable garden along with raising her family. In 1979, the couple retired and moved to the Phillips area. Mr. Werth preceded his wife in death on October 3, 1993. In 1995, Margaret moved to Appleton. In 2005 she moved back to Clintonville where she resided with her son, Bill. Margaret’s hobbies included cooking, baking, watching & feeding birds, playing solitaire and word search, getting together with her friends at Old Country Buffet and fighting with her cat, Pickles. She especially enjoyed visiting and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clintonville and the American Legion Auxiliary, Antigo

A service of remembrance will be held 3 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Clintonville with the Rev. Roberta Thomson officiating.

Gathering of family and friends will be at the church on Saturday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Diabetes Research.

Herman R. Yaeger

Herman R. Yaeger, age 82 of Clintonville passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday evening February 19, 2010 at the Shawano Medical Center.

Herman was born on July 19, 1927 in the Town of Larrabee, Waupaca County.  He was the son of the late Herman A. and Elizabeth (Koeller) Yaeger.  On June 9, 1951 Herman was united in marriage to Carol Jane Hartwig at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville.  The couple operated the family dairy farm in the Town of Larrabee until retiring in 1994 when they moved to Clintonville.  Herman was a life-long member of the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville.  He loved the outdoors, animals, farming, fishing, and hunting.  He also enjoyed a good card game, bowling, and just being with family and friends.  Herman had strong faith in his Lord which he showed daily by the way he lived his life.  He was a very loving, giving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ella Mazemke, and 5 brothers; Henry, Paul, Walter, Arthur, & Norman, and his mother-in-law & father-in-law Leonard and Dorothy (Fischer) Hartwig, and numerous brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 23, 2010 at 11:30 AM at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Daniel Burns officiating.  Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville in Spring.

Viola M. Schoenrock

Viola Marie Schoenrock, age 95 of Marion, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Viola was born on November 28, 1914 in the Township of Morris, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Ole and Lillian (Doan) Jensen. She later married Howard Boreen in Tigerton. The couple lived and farmed in the Township of Morris and then near Shawano until Mr. Boreen’s death. Viola moved to Wittenberg where she met and married Arthur Schoenrock on June 9, 1982. The couple had lived in Marion. Mr. Schoenrock preceded Viola in death on July 25, 1991. Viola had worked for many years as a waitress in Shawano and Tigerton and later worked at Hansen Glove Factory, Clintonville. Her hobbies included cooking, making wedding cakes for family and friends, gardening listening and dancing to polka music and visiting the casinos.

Her special friend and companion of 16 years: Wilbert Bohley, Marion

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Howard and Arthur, a daughter in infancy, a sister, Bertha (Robert) Graham, 4 brothers, John (Irene) Jensen, Norman Jensen, Arnold (Clara) Jensen and Louis Aloysius Jensen in infancy and a nephew, Louis Jensen.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Marion with the Rev. Matthew J. Uttenreither officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Tigerton.

Marion W. Mitchell

 

Marion W. Mitchell, age 92 of Clintonville passed away Saturday February 13, 2010 at her residence with family by her side.

Marion was born on May 25, 1917 in Clintonville.  She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Piehl) Whelan.  On March 4, 1937 Marion was united in marriage to Edward C. Mitchell in Niagara, WI.  The couple resided in Clintonville most of their married life where they were members of the United Methodist Church.  Edward preceded his wife in death on January 23, 1999.  Marion was a diligent worker in her community and church.  She was instrumental in uniting the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the United Methodist Church.  Marion was the Worthy Matron of the Clintonville & Shawano Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star and past Grand Electa of the Grand Chapter of Order of Eastern Star for the State of Wisconsin.  As an active member of the Clintonville community, Marion was proud of her position as the secretary of the Graceland Cemetery which she served for over 30 years.  Marion and Harriet McCauley were the ones responsible for computerizing all of the cemetery’s records.  Marion was nicknamed by her family as the Duchess of 13th Street and was a great actress.  She starred in 17 plays at the Mielke Theatre in Shawano, including some with her son Rusty.  Marion had a great personality and loved being a grandmother & great-grandmother.

Survivors include:  Her Daughter:  Gail (Steve) Rutherford, Portland, OR.

2 Sons:  Edward J. “Rusty” (Teddie) Mitchell, Clintonville.

              Joseph H. (Barbara) Mitchell, Oconomowoc.

Her Grandchildren:  Dawn Eden Martin, Trent Martin, Jamison Yorton, Natalie Young, Kevin Minshell, Joseph E. Mitchell, Pamela Mitchell, Jon Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, & Joshua Mitchell.

Also many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward C. Mitchell, and a sister Mabel Whelan.

Memorial services will be held Friday February 26, 2010 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Clintonville with Rev. Roberta Thomson officiating.  Inurnment will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Spring.

Anna M. Schulz

Anna Mildred Schulz, age 78 of Menasha, formerly of the Township of Morris, Shawano County, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 at Prairie Homes in Menasha.

Anna was born on January 10, 1932 in Cleveland, ND the daughter of the late Herbert and Louise (Bohlig) Kratzke. She was baptized on March 27, 1932 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND and confirmed on May 20, 1945 at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. In 1950, Anna graduated from Clintonville High School and continued her education at Milwaukee Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1951. On June 4, 1955, Anna married Gerald L. Schulz at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. The couple lived a short time in Neenah until they moved to Chilton. In 1980, they moved to the Township of Morris where they lived the rest of their married life. Mr. Schulz preceded his wife in death on February 5, 2003. Anna served as a Practical Nurse at Calumet Memorial Hospital and then at the Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg. Her hobbies included swimming, handicraft, working in her garden, horseback riding, hunting and fishing. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton where she was active in the LWML and the Altar Guild.

Ruth I. Mehlberg

Ruth Irene Mehlberg, age 91 of Clintonville was welcomed to Heaven and into the waiting arms of Jesus, her husband, John, daughter, Bonnie Jacoby, infant son, Johnny and four other infant children on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville after a short illness.

 

Ruth was born on July 15, 1918 in Wittenberg, WI, the daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Blum) Mech. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. After graduating from High School, Ruth married John R. Mehlberg on July 24, 1937at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville. The couple lived in Clintonville all of their married life. Ruth loved spending time working in her yard as evidenced by her beautiful flowerbeds and rock gardens. For a number of years, Ruth & John won awards for outstanding Christmas displays at their home. Ruth was a gifted seamstress who was especially proud of her quilting. She and her mother, Irene owned and operated Southside Apparel in Clintonville. After closing the store she worked for 10 years as at Schultz Brothers Store, Clintonville.  Ruth later worked at the J.C. Penny Store also in Clintonville for 21 years, serving as assistant manager the last few years before retiring in 1980. Mr. Mehlberg preceded his wife in death on February 14, 1982. For years, Ruth was an active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville where she belonged to the Sewing Bee. Later in life, she came to enjoy playing bingo and was a bus host for Diane Thede Tours until this past November. A fierce competitor, Ruth an avid card and game player who made sure everyone played “honestly”. Ruth was a loving and gentle woman who truly loved life. She led by example and taught us to make the most of the life we were given, not questioning God’s plan for us. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, 2 daughters, Judith in infancy & LaVonne “Bonnie” Jacoby, a son, Johnny in infancy, a grandson, Kit Jacoby in infancy, 2 brothers, Ray & Roy Mech and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

 

Funeral services will be held 6 P.M. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville with the Rev. Daniel Burns officiating. Inurnment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville;

 

Friends may call at the Church on Tuesday from 4 P.M. until the time of the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Martin Lutheran Church.

 

                The Mehlberg family would like to thank Aunt Gerri & Aunt Delores for the many card games; the visits with Uncle Elroy & Aunt Elaine: all her bingo friends, especially, Debbie. A special thanks to Orville Noak for all your kindness. To family, friends & neighbors who have supported Uncle Roger and the family through Ruth’s illness. Also to the Greentree and Heartland Hospice staff for all of your kindness.
