Carolina Custom Surfaces has roots that date back more than 38 years, when the company’s product line was simply comprised of cultured marble vanities, bathtubs, and shower surrounds. At that time the company was part of a franchise with manufacturing operation in Randleman, NC and several retail marble stores throughout the Triad. In 1995, Rudy and Phyllis Hoch purchased the manufacturing assets of the Randleman operation and changed the name of the company to Carolina Custom Surfaces. The company continued to operate out of Randleman for 2 more years, with a customer base spanning from Southern Pines to the Triad. Shortly after purchasing the company, Rudy and Phyllis expanded the product offering to include a solid surface product, which they named Carolite. Carolite allowed Carolina Custom Surfaces to enter the kitchen countertop market and to expand the breadth of its offerings in bathroom surfaces. As a result, the company’s customer base continued to grow, with the greatest concentration located in the Triad. To better serve this market, Carolina Custom Surfaces relocated to its current facility in Greensboro in December of 1997. Over the next 8 years the company continued its emphasis on quality products and services and earned certification to fabricate several nationally branded solid surface products, including Corian, Hi-Macs, Avonite and Gibralter to name a few. During this same period, stone products began to emerge as a popular option for kitchen and bath surfaces. Again, to meet the customer’s needs, Carolina Custom Surfaces began to purchase and install pre-fabricated granite, marble and engineered stone kitchens countertops and bathroom vanities.
In 2004, Rudy and Phyllis decided that they would like to begin the next phase of their lives. However, it was critical to both that the business continue with the same principles and beliefs that they had founded and grown the company on. To this end they recruited and hired their nephew, Joe Duszka, to run the business with the intent to purchase the company. Joe began running day-to-day operations in 2005 and in December he and his wife, Deborah, purchased the company . It also became apparent in 2005 that Carolina Custom Surfaces could not offer the quality and lead time that it was accustomed to by purchasing prefabricated stone products. Therefore, the decision to start and operate a stone fabrication shop was made. With no space for the stone shop in the current facility, and solid surface having outgrown the existing space, it was evident that a new facility was needed. In June of 2006, Carolina Custom Surfaces purchased a 40,000 sq. ft. facility in Greensboro that will eventually house the entire company. September 2006 marked the grand opening of the new stone fabrication facility, providing CCS with the product and process control needed to exceed the expectations of its customers. Solid surface fabrication joined the stone shop at the new building in November, and cultured marble, the showroom, and the administrative office were complete November 7th of 2007.
Carolina Custom Surfaces currently fabricates, installs and services a complete line of kitchen and bath surfaces that includes: cultured products (marble, granite, onyx), solid surface (both nationally recognized brands, as well as a high-end house brand, Carolite, that can be tailored to suit a customer’s needs), engineered stone (quartz) and natural stone (granite and marble). From its humble beginnings Carolina Custom Surfaces has grown five-fold through its emphasis on respect for the individual, giving the customer the best possible service, and its relentless pursuit of excellence and superior performance. These tenets form the basis of our company philosophy. We look forward to earning your business!
