Dining With Friends

(Berks Women in Crisis held its third Dining with Friends (DWF) Fundraising Event on May 31, 2008. Fourteen individual DWF parties were held at various locations around the county earlier in the evening; at 9:00 PM all guests joined in the Dessert Reception, which was originally to be held at Penn State Berks but was moved inside to City Hall due to concerns about severe weather.

Our thanks to individual party hosts who asked their guests to bring donations to the agency, including: Mayor Tom McMahon, June Clougher, Jayne Cumiskey, Rita Ditsky, Kathleen Edwards, Kathy Feiler, Brenda Gaul, Doris Haffer, Nancy Sellers, Kim Hubric, Phyllis Weinstein, Helen Midouhas, Regina & Ted Rinehimer, Terry Styer, Mary Kay Bernosky and Sheri Rush. Steve and Christina Ohnsman will host a DWF party at a later date.

At the Dessert Reception, Berks Women in Crisis raffled off a 1200C Sportster Harley Davidson motorcycle. John Border was the lucky winner of the Harley; he was one of several hundred agency supporters who purchased raffle tickets at $25 each. Second prize, a Harley Gift package, was won by Lou Tarnalicki. Eric Clemmer was awarded the third prize, a $200 Wal-Mart gift certificate.

The following businesses graciously allowed BWIC to sell Harley raffle tickets at their locations: Wal-Mart, AutoSpa of Wyomissing, Wawa at 11th and Rockland, The Blessing of the Bikes, Classic Harley, the Goggleworks, Vanity Fair, the BarBQ Pit, and the Reading Royals. Egan signs donated a sign to help promote the raffle.

Delicious desserts were donated for the event by the Cake Lady. In addition, a Silent Auction was held at the Dessert Reception, featuring items donated by Mary Ann Boyer of Sunshine Blue Skies; Jen Speicher of “SHE;” the Reading Phillies, Ted and Regina Rinehimer, Phelps T. Riley, P.C.; artist Jackie Muth, Maria DiCecco of Penn Square Catering, “At Your Service” by Jan Cremer, “Moxie Pilates” by Kimm Miller, “Junk to Jazz,” and Pollack Furs.
