Powder coating is an intricate process of applying a paint type finish and can serve a dual purpose. Powder coating is a protective coating and can certainly provide a decorative finish as well.
There are many steps that are inclusive of the powder coating process.
* The parts must first be degreased so all contaminants are removed from the surface.
* The parts must then be rinsed to remove any chemicals that may remain from the prior step. Rinsing occurs between each step of the process.
* The parts then go through an etching process. This removes any natural oxides that may be on the part.
* The parts are again rinsed.
* The parts are then deoxidized to remove any of the residue that may remain from the etching process.
* The parts are again rinsed.
* The parts then encounter a chromate process which ensures the adhesion of the powder and the part.
* The parts will then surpass a drying process to assure the parts are completely dry prior to the powder coating process.
* The parts are then powder coated.
* The parts are then admitted into a curing oven which cures the paint.
