A Vision for Peace-A Note from Azim As TKF completed its 10th anniversary In October of 2005 – I have been reflecting on TKF's vision. From very modest beginnings in 1995 TKF has accomplished an amazing amount in the last 10.5 years. Our message has been given to millions at home and internationally in live and media presentations. I continue to speak to a variety of audiences around the country and some internationally most every week and our story is published in new magazines and books every month. However TKF's passion is kids. I have always been told by teachers, principals and counselors in the schools we visit that "What TKF teaches is more important than Physics, Chemistry, History and other subjects". This is true because all of our kids eventually will become parents and TKF values are critical in teaching kids to choose a life of nonviolence, practice forgiveness instead of revenge and become peacemakers. A central part of our story is to demonstrate that brotherhood/sisterhood and unity is possible from conflict. Ples and I are living examples of this concept. In spite of our differences and meeting in the most dire of all possible circumstances we have been able to forge a strong brotherhood that continues to flourish now in the 11th year of the tragedy that brought us together. One can imagine what our world would look like if all the conflicts could end in brotherhood/sisterhood and unity. This is exactly what my hope is of the kids that go through TKF's programs. They are our future leaders and if they can learn that through conflict unity is possible we can achieve a world that is at peace. It has always been my vision that TKF become a subject in our schools just like all the other subjects and that our lessons become part of the main line curriculum in our schools. This vision may now become a reality based on a meeting TKF had with Dr. Cohn who is the new Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District. After attending one of our assemblies he told me "Azim – I have been an educator for 37 years and I have been to countless assemblies. I have seen none as powerful as your assembly and I want to get this in every one of my schools". TKF has begun meeting with SDUSD to see if a long term fee-for-service contract for TKF to teach its values is possible. SDUSD is the 5th largest school district in our country and success here would mean that TKF could be present in every school in our country and beyond. One day I hope TKF will be present in schools in Israel, Palestine, Iraq and other war and violence torn parts of our world. Our message is relevant really to all children, youth and adults. You can help TKF achieve this worthy goal by joining TKF's Seeds of Hope Society and writing to your legislators to see that funding for our programs are made available through the public school funding. With this in place TKF can eliminate youth gangs and make sure that our kids grow up as leaders that are committed to non-violence, peacemaking, forgiveness and creating brotherhood/sisterhood and unity from conflict. What could be more important than that? Thank you for love and support of TKF. Peace and blessings Azim Khamisa TKF CEO/Founder Upcoming Speaking Engagements: July 27, 2006 – 6-9pm.
