Quote of the Month

"You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far."Gibran

Azim's Monthly Musings
For This Father's Day, from This Father

Azim_Public
Sunday, June 15 is Father's Day, and my son Tariq, my daughter Tasreen and my two grandson's Shahin and Khalil are very much in my thoughts, heart and prayers.

As fathers, we are all being acknowledged on this day for providing care and guidance to our children. However - this father's day let us also reach out to the many children who may not have a father in his or her life. In the work I am doing as a result of Tariq's loss, I meet many children who have no contact with their fathers. Tony - the young man who took Tariq's life - is one such person who after all these years has finally established contact with his father by letter. I have become a father to many and would like to inspire all fathers on this special day to reach out to a child who does not have a father or a male elder and consider providing care and guidance. After all we are here to serve humanity, and in the totem of humanity, I believe the children come first.

In The Prophet, Gibran reminds us:

"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams."

Reflected in the "Quote of the Month" above, Gibran's represents the vision of parenting in a painting in which the mother is the first half of the bow, the father is the second half of the bow, the child is the arrow and God is the archer.

Stability comes from providing care and guidance to the young ones in our lives. They are truly our teachers. Both Tasreen and Tariq have taught me an amazing amount as I move through life. Shahin and Khalil also have become a huge inspiration for my life. As Gibran's says, "For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday." Without Tariq - and his sudden departure - my life would have been very different. I would not be the person I am nor doing this work for our children. It has changed my life and made me a better and a more giving person. I always say, "It is a good day when you have a chance to speak with children."

I just got the opportunity to do this in Australia. As I write this, I am in Brisbane and feel very blessed that the message of love, forgiveness and compassion reached over 1,500 kids here, bringing them love, care and guidance.

I believe the most important thing we can do on Father's Day is honor our children. I honor Tariq, Tasreen, Shahin and Khalil, and all the many children in my life. I am blessed today to be spending most of my time talking to children. They rely on us adults for their care and guidance. They are our future! May God bless all the children of our planet on this day and every day of their lives.

Many blessings,
Azim N. Khamisa

Something to Practice for Your Peace
peace"Just Like Me" Excercise

The following is a forgiveness excerise - used in Azim's workshops - that you can practice for the sake of your peace and peace of mind. To truly forgive and find peace, you must be able to release resentments regarding others in your life. One way to do this is to see clearly the higher truth of that other person, to have empathy for even those who may wish to cause you harm. If you are willing to take a step towards a higher place, which will set you free, think of someone with whom you have shared discord or resentment. As you think of that person finish these phrases:
  1. Just like me _____ wants to be happy in his/her life.
  2. Just like me _____ is trying to avoid pain in his/her life.
  3. Just like me _____ is learning about life.
  4. Just like me _____ is ___________________ .
See and feel into a new place as you consistently practice this art of forgiveness.
