On April 22, 2006 Tomek sustained a fractured left femur and knee disarticulation amputation after being struck by a driver as he stood outside of his vehicle. Tomek played soccer in Europe for ten years. He has been a runner for many years. Prior to his amputation, he completed 4 marathons and 3 half-marathons. Tomek's last marathon was the ING NYC marathon in 2003. Articles about Tomek have appeared in the Trenton Times newspaper, Bucks County Times newspaper, a Polish newspaper and he will soon be featured in the Advance for Physical Therapists. Tomek was also featured on Fox 29 news. Awards: Tomek received a declaration from the New Jersey State legislature in August, 2007.
