Team A Step Ahead Team A Step Ahead is a program of A Step Ahead Prosthetics that supports a group of patients that participate in a variety of sports and physical activities including, but not limited to, running, cycling, skiing, tennis, golf, equestrian, rowing, lacrosse, baseball, football, basketball, ice hockey, softball, soccer, swimming, mountaineering, scuba diving, motorcycle racing, weightlifting, fencing, wrestling, rock climbing, sky diving, race walking, martial arts, roller hockey, wheelchair tennis, and hiking.
Ranging from recreational to elite athletes, adult and children members of Team A Step Ahead athletes have the opportunity to receive advanced coaching and training from some of the most experienced coaches and physical therapists in the world. The coaches and physical therapists work closely with the prosthetists of A Step Ahead in the development of the most unique, cutting edge, customized sports prosthetics.
Team A Step Ahead's elite athletes have compiled an impressive resume competing in athletic events around the globe. Many of the Team A Step Ahead athletes compete against able-bodied athletes in marathon, road races, triathlons, and many other sports. Some have placed and even won their age group in able-bodied competitions.
Athletes range from past and present Paralympic and world record holders to new amputees looking to engage in athletic activities for the first time. Junior Team A Step Ahead athletes compete annually at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged. Junior athletes also have the opportunity to attend a yearly ski clinic at Camelback Mountain in Pennsylvania and train with coaches from Disabled Sports U.S.A.
In addition, Junior Team A Step Ahead athletes have the opportunity to meet their adult counterparts, who provide them support, advice, and encouragement as these children move through adolescence. Team A Step Ahead and its junior athletes are a constantly growing group of active amputees who embody A Step Ahead's motto: Live Life without Limitations!
Team A Step Ahead athletes use the most technologically advanced prosthetic limbs designed and fabricated specifically for their sport. A Step Ahead’s prosthetists and technical staff work with the lightest and strongest materials possible to enhance the athlete’s competitive edge. In addition, each prosthetic socket for sports is designed and customized for the athlete based on the needs of their sport. When designing a sports prosthesis, our prosthetists take into consideration all of the biomechanical and physical needs of that sport to ensure that the athlete can perform at his or her highest level. The innovations in custom prosthetic work we have developed for the athletes of Team A Step Ahead give us added expertise for every prosthetic we design, bringing an added dimension of creativity to the design and fabrication of all of our prosthesis.
