Brian O'Sullivan was born with a condition known as proximal focal femur deficiency. The difference in length between his two legs was so great that he would not have been able to walk normally, so he underwent surgery to remove the foot which allowed him to be fitted with an above the knee prosthesis.

Growing up in New York City, Brian was always athletic, wrestling and playing high school baseball.  He began swimming at age 2 and skiing and competing in track and field events at age 9. Being an athlete (and now a father of two), Brian kept up his conditioning by running 4-5 miles a day. Beginning in the winter of 2006, he began running road races and became inspired to run the New York City Marathon, which he completed in a world record time for single above the knee amputees in 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Recently Brian has been featured in the New York media (http://www.lohud.com), as well as on Fox 5 News (http://www.fox5.com/).
