Amy Palmiero-Winters is a mother of two and full time welder from Meadville, PA who has been involved in competitive sports all of her life. Prior to her motorcycle accident in 1994, she competed in track, road racing, and she ran the Boston Marathon in 3:16. Following her accident and more than 25 surgeries, Amy again tried to become a successful athlete. She placed and beat the majority of her amputee opponents in competitions wearing a walking prosthesis. Since receiving her first running prosthesis in February of 2006, Amy has been repeatedly breaking records in the marathon and the triathlon. Her current aspirations include breaking the 3 hour mark for the marathon, and being the fastest amputee marathoner in the world. In addition, Amy plans to qualify for the Ironman world championships in her able bodied age group, as well as be the first female amputee to compete a 100 mile ultramarathon. Amy has been featured in articles in many prosthetic industry magazines, as well as local and national media; Amy will be featured in Runners World Boston Marathon issue in the spring of 2007.
