Amputee Athlete Competes in CBS’ “The Amazing Race” 

Sarah Reinersten and Peter Harsch are A Step Ahead of the Competition. 
 
Sarah Reinersten, originally from Huntington Long Island, completed her first episode of the CBS Emmy award winning show, The Amazing Race on Sunday September 17 finishing in 3rd place. Sarah is world renowned for her athletic accomplishments as the first female amputee to complete the grueling Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October of 2005. In addition Sarah recently won a 2006 ESPY award as the best female athlete with a disability.

The Amazing Race is a Reality television program featuring 12 teams of 2 persons racing around the world for a cash prize of $1,000,000. The teams compete in thirteen stages traveling all over the world. In most stages the last team to arrive at the pit stop is eliminated. When only three teams remain in the race, they compete in a final leg. The team in first place is the winner of $1,000,000 and the winner of The Amazing Race.

Sarah has been sponsored throughout her running and triathlon career by many national and international companies that provide her with financial support, coaching, cycling and triathlon equipment and prosthetic support. Sarah’s Prosthetic support is provided by Erik Schaffer of A Step Ahead Prosthetics & Orthotics in Hicksville, NY. Sarah has worked with Erik for over fifteen years.
