Erik Schaffer, C.P. Erik is the President of A Step Ahead and an American Board Certified prosthetist. He has been in the prosthetics and orthotics industry for more than 18 years. In that time, he has designed prostheses for Paralympic athletes (track and field, skiing, standing ice hockey), marathoners, sprinters, mountain climbers, scuba and sky divers, cyclists, roller bladers, triathletes, members of the U.S. Disabled Rowing Team, Federal Agents, and members of the U.S. Special Forces.
Erik has unsurpassed experience in fitting clients who present unique clinical challenges. More then 20% of his practice is devoted to pediatric clients who have suffered limb loss either as a result of cancer or congenital anomalies. He also treats an unusually large number of hip disarticulation (unilateral and bilateral), hemipelvectomy, Van Ness rotationplasty, proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), and bilateral amputees.
