Pediatric Prosthetics

A Step Ahead has developed a vast knowledge and experience in creating prostheses for children. We fit children born with limb deficiencies and congenital anomalies at the earliest age possible. Our prosthetists have developed customized socket designs to fit any child. Our work with highly active children has allowed the prosthetists and technicians at A Step Ahead to develop innovative prosthetic components and customized materials that withstand the rigors of play and sports.

We are experienced in providing prosthesis for children of all levels of amputations, including those of the upper and lower extremity,  as well children with congenital anomalies, including tibia and fibula hemimelia, proximal femoral focal deficiency, and Van Ness rotationplasty.

In addition to providing the highest quality prosthetic care, we help coordinate physical and occupational therapy for our pediatric population. A Step Ahead can provide such services at our own facility.  As part of our ongoing effort to encourage physical activity, we provide a sports and recreational program for children. Junior Team A Step Ahead offers many activities, including skiing, rock climbing, camping, and track and field competition as well as a mentoring program with adult athletes with limb loss.
