A Message from Our President
The Arc/Middlesex County Chapter was founded and initially staffed solely by volunteers. Volunteers make up the Board of Directors and are a vital element in the chapters continuing growth and success.
My interest in volunteering began at a young age. My father, Harry became permanently disabled at the age of forty-six due to health complications that further impacted a disabling injury he received while a decorated soldier during the Korean War. Through his example and encouragement I have sought out to meet and work with diverse volunteer groups.
My experience with the Arc/Middlesex has allowed me to see first hand the importance of coordinating volunteers with staff and clients. Working as a team strengthens our ability to advocate for improving the quality of life for people with mental retardation and others with related developmental disabilities.
Our experienced and caring staff acts efficiently and effectively in assisting families. They are dedicated to working as a team on behalf of each family. As stated in our mission we
encourage personal growth through empowerment, choice and support.
It is indeed a challenge for any family with a child with developmental disabilities to ensure that their child will continue to learn and grow as they move into adulthood. Too often families are not aware of the vast array of services available to them from the Arc/Middlesex. The chapter is the best contact point for comprehensive referral and direct services as families transition from school to community programs, residential housing, recreation programs, respite and family support.
The continuation of an individuals development to their fullest potential requires a knowledgeable and dedicated staff working with families and clients. The Arc/Middlesex has that dedicated & caring staff. We have the resources to act boldly and efficiently in getting the message out and providing direct contact with families, school professionals, self-advocates as well as state and local government policy makers. The Arc is an accredited provider of services tailored to meet theses specific needs and, on an on-going basis, the Arc provides the extensive coordination of services and supports needed to meet each participants needs.
I invite you to join our team of dedicated volunteers and staff, working on behalf of our families and clients as they navigate the vast array of direct and support services for all families and individuals with mental and developmental disabilities.
My Dad who was very supportive of my involvement with the Arc died December, 2004. It is in his memory and generous spirit that I dedicate my service.
